We ventured to Bagan, Burma to fly over the ancient pagodas with a company called Balloons Over Bagan. The outing is rated as one of the best travel experiences of all time by many including Lonely Planet and popular travel bloggers. We were picked up at our hotel at 5:15am and taken to a big open field in Bagan, traveling in style in these old fashioned safari-like vehicles.
After coffee and breakfast pastries we watched the crews prepare the balloons for take off.
We lifted off just in time to see the sun rising above hundreds of pagodas, most of which are over a thousand years old.
Most of the fields below us were groundnut and peanut plants.
Our balloon took a picture of us while in flight!
The crew worked super hard to get us to land in the "right" spot, but we accidentally landed in a farmer's field of groundnuts. Not to worry though - the company pays the farmer back for the entire field to compensate.
After we landed we were greeted with champagne and delicious treats as a way to celebrate! Indeed this was one of the best travel experiences I have ever had.
